“The Legend”
"The Legend" is the foundation of the Brackenbury line. Born
of a dream and given a name to live up to. The Legend was initially named after Larry D Jones now the Legend is named after the late Jim Brackenbury, Jim's Legacy Lives On. The Legend has proven itself from the steamy tropical jungles of South America to the frozen tundra of Alaska. The Legend has performed flawlessly in all conditions and has established a proven record of dependability, durability, stability, and speed which have become its trademark. Not to mention it's mighty pleasing to look at. The standard riser is made of Bubinga with an accent strip of Shedua flanked by natural maple. Limb cores are Superflex Actionwood backed Shedua veneer under clear glass. If you prefer to have your Legend built like the original offering with brown glass, it is available as an option. This recurve bow has truly earned its name. It's guaranteed to meet or exceed your highest expectations. The Legend is available in 60", 62", 64", 66", and 68" lengths. (68" Special order)
All Legend's will be marked, "In Memory of Jim Brackenbury".

Below is an exert of the brochure that I received when I ordered my first Legend in 1985: "In 1979 I built a recurved takedown bow that was as fast and stable as it is smooth and quiet. Extensive field test and hunts across the western U.S. have proved this bow is both dependable and portable. That bow was named The Legend and it inspired two additional models: The Tradition, The Drifter, and later The Shadow. All four models feature the same limb design and hold the same shooting characteristics in common. The wood or woods in the risers distinguish one model from the other. For stability and smoothness of draw, my bows are 66 inches long. A 64 inch version of each model was available on special order at no additional cost. Later Jim offered them in 60 inch and 62 inch also. For dependability, only the finest domestic and exotic tropical hardwoods are used in the bow riser. Limbs are constructed of Superflex Actionwood. Gordon Bowtuff, the standard of the industry, is the unidirectional fiberglass used on all Brackenbury bows. A wide limb design, along with a performance proven shape and taper for each lamination optimum stress distribution to underscore smoothness and extend bow life. Every bow is chronograph tested using an arrow to bow ratio of 9 grains per pound. This is to make certain it meets or exceeds a speed test of 190 f.p.s. Every bow I make will shoot within the specs or it never leaves my shop. You can count on Jim Brackenbury bows to appear and perform as described and your order filled to complete satisfaction or I'll buy the bow back within 30 days of delivery. If the bow fails with in the first six months due to materials or workmanship, it will be repaired or replaced at your option. You've got my name on it." signed Jim Brackenbury
Tip Overlays at the string groove help prevent nicks and abrasions that often start running cracks in the fiberglass and shorten the bow's life. Wood overlays are one more feature indicative of the quality incorporated in every Brackenbury bow.
The Arrow Shelf is cut so that your arrow rests 1/4 inch or less above your hand. This helps the instinctive archer get an on arrow on target quicker with a natural pointing motion. The Sight Window is cut 3/16ths of an inch past center, This minimizes the amount of flex the arrow must undergo to get on the line of sight.
Radius-Cut-Limbs bolt securely to the riser in a matter of seconds to give you the convenience of a bow that packs safely in and out of the field by car, plane, train or horse.
Long Tapered Fadeouts in the limb help distribute stress for extended bow life and additional cast. A wide, 7 lines to the inch, checkering pattern, which minimizes hand slippage, can be cut into the handle at nominal charge if so noted on your order. Archers who wear a wool glove on the hunt find this a great feature.
